Heywood G. Friedman has been appointed as a Special Assistant to the Attorney General for the State of Washington, for the purpose of representing the interests of the Washington Attorney General in legal matters venued within the State of California.
In honor of the birthday of our workers’ compensation Paralegal, Leroy DeLeon, this firm made a donation to The Humane Society. Leroy is a strong proponent of animal well-being.
In honor of the one-year employment anniversary of our workers’ compensation Paralegal, Monica Ulloa, this firm made a donation to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Monica has worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 6 years, 3 of those years were with special ed kids.

In our continuing support of local school programs, a donation was made to Thousand Oaks High School PTSA for their Technology Fundraiser.
The firm also donated six Thanksgiving turkeys to the Westlake Juniors Women’s Club for the upcoming holiday.
In honor of the one-year employment anniversary of our workers’ compensation lien specialist, Hans Boysen, the firm made a donation to the National Down Syndrome Society. Hans has a long history of working with kids with special needs.

Co-office administrator, Vanessa Reid, participated in UCLA’s annual Volunteer Day, the nation’s largest community participation event for new students. More than 7,800 new Bruins and 1,000 alumni, faculty, and staff joined together to work on 26 beautification and restoration projects at schools, beaches, homeless shelters, nature trails, parks, and community organizations across Los Angeles. A UCLA alumnus, Vanessa was asked to work as an assistant site leader and team leader at the Lawrence Middle School in Chatsworth, CA. Even though the painting and cleanup projects on this campus were numerous, the weather was warm, and there were hundreds of middle-school students running around, the UCLA freshmen turned out a clean and beautiful job which makes the campus more hospitable to learning.

The office has raised in excess of $500 for Somali hunger relief. Contributions will be ongoing.

A contribution was made to the Boys and Girls Club located in Thousand Oaks, California in support of their summer programming.

While no "round trippers" were hit by the firm's softball team, the team experienced a 400% increase in wins from the prior season (from 1 to 4). Our success resulted in a contribution to the National Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado.

The firm’s softball team, “The Baron Von Awesomes,” will again compete in the Conjeo Valley Coed Softball League. Charitable donations will be made for every win and every home run slugged.

The Law Offices of Heywood G. Friedman has donated legal services to the Los Padres ForestWatch, a community-based nonprofit organization that is leading efforts to protect the Los Padres National Forest and other public lands along California's Central Coast.

Participation in the Ventura County Mock Trial Competition
Heywood G. Friedman was recognized by Kent M. Kellegrew, Judge of the Superior Court for his participation as a volunteer Judge in the Ventura County Mock Trial Competition. Over the course of three days, the bench and bar facilitated 54 complete trials. Since 1984, the Mock Trial competition has offered students in grades 9 to 12 the opportunity to portray each of the principals in the cast of courtroom characters. Student teams study a hypothetical case, conduct legal research, receive guidance from volunteer attorneys in courtroom procedure and trial preparation, and present their case before volunteer judges. The Ventura County Mock Trial is co-sponsored by the county Office of Education, Superior Court, and County Schools Federal Credit Union.

Planting Trees
Associate Attorney Jeremy Shatzer volunteered for the Goleta Valley Beautiful organization in Santa Barbara, California. Goleta Valley Beautiful is a non-profit organization which plants trees in the greater Santa Barbara area. Jeremy thoroughly enjoyed his experience, and recommends the program to everyone.
